hello guys and gals.. please can you help??? We have a 2001 Td5 Discovery that has developed a fault that we are at a loss with.. On the display upon starting the engine there are 2 clog like lights one of which is an S and the other is an M.. they light up and flash.. when we switch the engine off and restart it the lights may go off or it may take a couple of engine restarts to get the lights to go off...
Can anyone offer us any help in diagnostics of this fault and a solution (hopefully cheap solution!! )
I'm new to the forum and apologise if there is a thread already about this but I couldn't find one... Here's hoping you can help...

Those are the "Sport" and "Manual" mode lights for the transmission.
They both come on at the same time when your battery voltage is low, go have your battery and alternator tested.
If you drive it with those lights on the transmission will go into "limp" mode and you will only have 3rd gear.
