Hey all ... new member here, so I first want to say hello.
Next, I tried using the search function with keywords navigation and calibration, but found nothing useful... so I guess I have to ask as a new post... so here goes.
I just bought a used 2002 Discovery II SE ... I love it. It's in fantastic shape, and I've figured out most everything so far, but I can't get the navigation system to calibrate. The truck only came with the "USA West" cd, as the USA East cd is missing. So, I put the cd in, and hit the "nav" button on the radio, and got started. I can choose a language, then a voice, then I get to where it says that I can start my calibration ride. So, I start driving in a straight line, go about 3-500 yards, then make a turn (left or right, about 90 degrees) and continue driving in a straight line ... etc. etc. etc. ... but it never leaves that screen. It appears that it's picking up signals from different satellites like it's supposed to ... I saw it go anywhere from SAT: 7 thru SAT: 12 ... but for some reason, it just won't calibrate.
The main reason it's bothering me is not because I want to use the nav system, but because I'm already sick of the little car picture on my radio display with the note under it saying that it's "NO CAL" (not calibrated) ... and the little compass arrow is sitting there too with a question mark next to it ... Of course, I'm assuming that once I get it calibrated those indicators will go away.
So, does anyone have a clue what I might be doing wrong? Is this a known glitch? Do I need the most recent navigation cd's and software? I'm stumped, and any help would be much appreciated.

Only thing I can say is I don't have the nav system and I don't understand why LRNA won't just give you the disks for some nominal handling fee. They sold theirtruck with their nav system -- haven't they made enough money off that already?
Maybe you could appeal to LRNA or your local service manager to go to bat with them on your behalf? Just doesn't seem right that they would charge a lot for the disks. I can see not handing them out free, but a small handling charge to cover their stocking costs ought to be enough.
OK, enough rant. Again, I don't have their nav system but to make an educated guess, it can't calibrate to a location for which it doesn't have nav data. Step one would be to get the disk you need for where the truck is located.

Thanks for the reply. That's what I was thinking as well, regarding having the proper disc. However, when I read the manual it said that the disc isn't necessary for calibration ... then again, I think it said that it "might not be" necessary.
I didn't buy the truck from a Land Rover dealer, but I do know the local dealer here in town. I called them yesterday and asked them about this. They were not sure what the issue is, but they mentioned that I might need the disc with this location on it so that it could calibrate. I told them I really don't care to use the navigation system, but that I do want the calibration prompt to go away. I asked them if they would let me use a disc to get calibrated, and they said that should not be an issue if they have one ... but they normally do not keep them in stock ... grrrrrrr
So, I'm going to head over there this weekend and see if they can help me. If not, I need to find someone that can make me a copy of the USA East disc ... I'll be glad to pay them for it, for a 'fair' price ... but again, I just really want to get the calibration thing to stop bothering me. I know where I'm going most of the time, and can't see how the navigation system would really benefit me.
Perhaps I'll just replace the dash unit with an aftermarket radio and be done with it ... LOL

I realize your conversation was many moons ago on this topic, but I am wondering what you ended up with. I just got my LR, and it has this system. It was hard enough to get the code to turn the radio on from the dealership, the car did not come with the manual. How does this radio/navigation system even work?!
