99 D2 No Crank, Looking for help in Maryland
I can't afford a dealership, have little trust in indys, so looking for a rover guru near me I can feed some greenbacks to help resolve my issue before my 81 Skylark dies. I live in Frederick MD, Zip 21701. It's 30-45 minutes west of DC-Baltimore.
I got issues in deep, a gremlin in the system. Truck will not crank with key, it cranks and starts by jumping the sm relay in under hood fusebox. But it only runs for a second then the comp kills it.
I have code for xyz and 1668, both pending.
M+S lights, and gear selector in dash shows symbols for all gears at once
xyz has been checked, and good, dash shows same with switch removed.
So I believe I have an issue between the ignition switch and perhaps the bcu.
Other symptoms, windows do not work, door locks and seats do not work.
LED for alarm is not lit. Alarm seems to work properly.
FOB unlocks driver door.
I have reset inertia, new battery, checked grounds, checked fuses.
This happened after a prolonged period, month or so with no batery in it.
I am desperate enuf to open my wallet, hope there is someone around to help.

Good news, I was able to jump the fuel pump relay. So when I jumpped the starter relay this time it kept running!
And I was even able to start it with the key after it started and kept running. So maybe there was just a bad/dirty connection in the system.
Also my gear selection display is showing the correct symbol now.
If all goes well and it keeps being a truck instead of a yard ornament I will post about this possible fix.
Thx for the helping hands. I been craving the offroad badly.

So far so good, purring like a kitten.
Well except a scare I got yesterday, got a missfire and o2 code.
Was about to freak out, but I just had a loose plug wire in a way.
Left it hanging loose just enuf for the steering linkage to grab it and yank it off. Put it back on mo better and all good. SHEWWWWWW!
Thanks again everyone, never did get a straight fix it this way, but you guided me along the path to success.(or did I step off that when I bought a Rover?

I have seen in other posts how to resync your ECU and alarm that is disabling your car. I believe it has something to do with leaving the front door open and turning the key from to the accessory position so many times. I had to do this almost a year a go and it was so easy I forgot the details.
