Default battery earth lead

If "battery earth lead" is the negetive lead why will the repair manual say disconnect "battery earth lead" rather then saying disconnect "negative lead". are there any ideas?

For the same reason the message center says "bonnet open" and not "hood open." Different places use different terminology for the same things.

If you say "earth" (or ground) lead, then whether it's pos of neg earth(ground), you're disconnecting the correct lead. Land Rovers were positive earth until the early 60's.
You always disconnect the ground, not the "live" lead.

That is just the term use by landrover manuals. That is like a more mechanic type of term not for a simple mechanic but you can still get the idea.
