Default Braking problems LR Disco 2007

Hi,

im new here!
I bought my car last year. I noticed once the weather got warm, the braking got more of a struggle.
I barely used the car and would only go locally so I never got it checked out.

it had its MOT in May this year, they advised the rear brake pads would need to be changed in the next few months as there was a little worn.
There was no other issues with the car.

fast forward to last week, the weather has been amazing, we took a trip to the beach which is around 15miles away.

the brakes have started playing up again.
I CAN brake but it takes a long time to come to an actual stop.
Even when I’m pushing as hard as possible.
it feels as though something is preventing the pedal from reaching all the way to the floor -
I be seen “spongy brakes” mentioned and I think that could be the only way to describe it.

break fluid is fine.

I’ve tried pumping the pedal, doesn’t work.
I can sometimes, not always but sometimes feel the pedal pulsing so I’m guessing that’s the ABS.
there’s no noise when I brake.

it’s quite frightening because one of the roads was downhill and I honestly thought we were going to go off the side of the cliff!

any help would be greatly appreciated.
if it’s something my husband can’t fix himself, I’ll be taking it into the garage next week.

thank you.

I got one around 130k. It recently had work done on a control arm. Brakes were replaced as well as tires.

is it worth converting to springs? We had trouble with our suspension last year, had to get that sorted at a cost of 2k and the mechanic suggested converting to springs!
