If any of you have a Disco II or other Land Rovers with factory dash clocks that have burned out bulbs, there is a less expensive and perhaps easier alternative to paying $10 for the bulb from the dealer.
The Mercedes Benz C220 (1994-1996) and some other MB vehicles use the same 1.5w Osram bulb (bayonet type twist-in bulb and integrated holder). The bulb # is P4042-142273. It is exactly the same as the Rover bulb. I found it at our local MB dealer (2 miles away instead of 30 for the nearest Rover dealer) for $4.70, 1/2 the price the Rover dealer wanted. The MB part # is 910141-000000. Here is what the bulb looks like (the OEM Rover bulb holder is black - the MB is beige - but they are the same bulb):
Installing the bulb is easy. Just pop out the clock from the dash, and remove the bulb with a narrow screwdriver by twisting a quarter turn.
