GEMS 4.0 VERSUS BOSCH 4.0 (No LEV)

"Success is going from failure to failure and not loosing enthusiasm"

I wonder if the gems(95-98) and bosch(99-2002) engines share the basic block, crank, heads, rockers, camshaft, lifter parts, front timing cover c/w oil pump and water pump? Other than fuel injection system, the only difference I can find is the crank shaft position sensor (gems) versus electronic speed sensor (Bosch). If i am correct I should be able to buy a rebuilt long block (Bosch), install my gems intake manifold, install my gems antiknock sensors, gems timing cover, fabricate crank position sensor from Gems and be good to go.

What I am contemplating, is taking a 2002 Bosch long Block into a 1998 Range Rover...doable?

Thanks for your response...

Dave

Yes it is doable, that being said, the late gems motors were made from a better alloy then the D2 engine so if you are looking to rebuild go for a 97 thru 99 Gems engine

Quality control during the Bosch years was not of any importance.
A Gems engine is the better of the 2.
But yes, they are the same block and heads.

There are 2 knock sensors > Replacing The Knock Sensor On A Discovery 2 Or Range Rover.

Just a FYI, you might want to post a new question like this in the DII Section (this thread is from 2011) you will get more eyes on it.
Cheers
