Default How accurate is the Ultra gauge

Hi there guys new to The forum I look forward to many many consults and problem-solving with you guys. Ya'll really seem to be dedicated to these addictive trucks. I love mine it's a 2003 se7 but I was sitting in it for about a half an hour seeing if it was going to overheat and my ultragauge went from 186.6 degrees to 190 Max and I just went under the hood to wrap my hands around the hose and it felt way hotter so just curious how accurate the ultragauge is I've never had the regular idiot gauge on the dash move just don't want to overheat

Not sure what to say about the accuracy of the Ultra Gauge but I am sure it is way more accurate than your hand saying the hose is more than that.

Welcome to the forum!

You should only use your tongue for temp comparison.

The ultra gauge gets it's feed from the sensor so if the sensor is working properly you should be seeing the real temps.

Only verifiable way to check is to get an IR temp reader. An inexpensive model can be found on Amazon for <$15.

Prevents you from speaking with a lisp for a week with a burned tongue.

I can unequivocally confirm that my Ultra Gauge Blue temp gauge is way more accurate than the temp gauge on my Disco's instrument cluster. lol

Its +/-.9 degree F resolution from the obd2 port. before you even factor in any sending unit measurement error. A similar sending unit has a resistance error at 212 of about +/- 2.2F. And with the engine bay heat the wire is probably good for an additional +/-1F So +/-5F is a reasonable expectation.
