Land Rover SD?
#11
SD, SE, XD and LSE are the models found in the NAS D1 line, HSE was never offered in the Disco family until the LR3 (Discovery III) came aboard. SE trim added sunroofs front and rear, rear air and wood accents and slanted pleats on the door panels. Wheels also denoted model. 1998 LSE had way better seats for a Disco plus chrome bumpers and body matching painted bumper corners and side mirrors plus a different wheel which is desirable and somewhat rare without the rest of the tug boat they bolted to. The 96/97 XD was more of an "Expedition" model, bare minimum to make it roll. Painted AA Yellow, you could order a whole slew of kit parts through the factory including skid plates. 1998 was LR's 50th anniversary and a true 50th is in Woodcote Green. Some 98 SE's had a gold 50th sticker in the window and pin striping. There is another "Special Vehicle" along with the XD and that is the Camel Trophy Disco, basically an XD with a turbo diesel four banger 200Tdi/300Tdi painted in Sandglow. There are others in that vain like the TreK XD's that are dealer configured.
HSE was primarily a Range Rover model distinction and it started mid 95 with the P38 Rangie onward and denoted whether the engine was a 4.0 (SE) or 4.6 (HSE) and wheel and tire size options plus other amenities. I like to think of the "HSE" as the Horse Shat Edition. I blew a P38 HSE's doors off with my lowly Jeep WJ the other day, he rev'd his motor not me...... smoked his Borla and Brembo stickers right off. I was in 4 high at the time so even Steven.
In the ROW family the Disco 1 came into being in the late 80's with both three doors and five door models. Our so called NAS Discovery 1's are actually Disco II's in that realm.... just not as much a mall munching nightmare as the NAS DII's.
