Default Low-range won't engage

Low-range won't engage. When lying under vehicle you can hear it change in transfer box but the low range selector lever going from the transfer box to the front diff doesn't move. Can this be fixed through taking off the transfer box panel and lying under the car? 1998 Landrover Discovery TDI manual.Thanks.

You can have either the switch in the tranny or the solenoid in the t/case fail and you won't be able to shift it.

Hi Disco Mike, RE: low range problem, is this a problem I can fix at home, (easily repaired), or are special tools needed and best left to the experts. Thanks. Oh and thanks for your advice ages ago on my problem with the rear electric windows not working, you saved me $$$. Thanks again John.

I think this is the wrong forum for Discovery! But what linkage are you referring to, nothing goes to the differential! It is all inside thetransfer box, the linkage to the drive train lock up is now disconnecteddue to ABS traction control issues.

You has either a bad tranny switch ot a bad t/case solenoid.
