Thumbs down R380 Gearbox Oil

Can anyone please explain to me why all Land Rover workshop manuals recommend ATF Dextron II to be used in the R380 gearbox fitted to a Defender with 300 Tdi engine, yet for my Discovery II Td5 also with the R380 gearbox it is SMX-S manual transmission fluid which is a W75-85 viscosity ?????

It's the SAME gearbox, why can't i put SMX-S into my Defender 300 Tdi as well and maybe make the box a bit quieter ?????

Please explain?

Alex

Because that's what they first used. Then L/R issued a TSB saying to switch to MTF.
