Default serious vibration at speed.

my 92 disco tdi has a really bad vibration between about 80 and 90 km/h, seems to get worse when i brake and turn. ive just had the wheels balanced and although they were out the problem is still with me. im thinking the drive shaft may be out of balance or somethings bent?
ive got a 4 inch explorer lift kit in it maybe this is putting excess strain on the unis?

I am not a LR expert, but I do know a little about wheel balancing. I had the same prob in my 01 Saab after I put on some new tires. I had to have the wheels balanced 3 times before they got it right. After the 3rd try, no more vibration!

Are your brake rotors warped? If you do a lot of stopping or are a bit hard on your brakes they will get hot and warp. Sound like this could be your problem.

If you only had behavior while braking, I would lean towards the rotors being warped. When you mention vibration, is it in the steering wheel or in the whole vehicle?

it could be that the driveshaft is out of balance, but that wouldnt make any difference when you stop or turn....so i would REALLY lean toward the rotors..are you mechically inclined?

Just another thought--There is a rubber coupler at the rear differential that would cause a low frequency vibration (kind of a rumble) at about the speeds you describe if it is cracked. I would otherwise lean towards a wheel balance issue, unless the issue happens only when braking.

Mike. I have the same problem on a Defender 110. It's always been a bit wobly at those speeds and the local dealers all told me they all do that. Is this true? Now it's worse and I notice it paricularly if i'm in a bend at those speeds. Some days are much worse than others too (very strange!). I too had the wheels balanced a few times but it doesn't help. Did you find a solution?
