Default Who has changed Disco II rear air susp compressor???

Hi,

This is probably a stupid question but:

'01 Disco II Rear Suspension Air Compressor Removal:

How do I disconnect the intake and exhaust hoses/tubing from the compressor unit?

The electric and high pressure hoses were pretty obvious, but the left side and top larger diameter intake and exhaust hoses have no visible clamps or nuts to loosen.

There must be some simple trick. Push/pull/twist?

Does anyone know???

Advice greatly appreciated!

Hi Charles68.
Where the pipes goes into the fitting, you will see a plastic collar. If you pull on the pipes, you will see it come away from the fitting by a couple of millimeters. That collar you must push hard towards the fitting, while pulling on the pipe with the other hand. The pipe should just slip out.

THANKS!!! I will try that when I get home. A local mechanic also suggested pushing inward a bit. Apparently there are some special clamps that will release by pushing in a bit before pulling.

I will report results so other idiots like me will not face this problem.

Thanks to everyone for their help. Now there is proof: even an idiot can change the rear suspension air compressor.

Instructions for unhooking the intake/exhaust tubes were great. Its kinda awkward to do - but they did slip off right away.

I was a bit disappointed after hooking everything up that the compressor didn't come on - but the problem was that the hood was open. Once hood was down the compressor came on: "vrrrrrrrrrrrp vrrrrrrrrrrrrrp" and the rear came right up.

Thanks again to everyone for advice and help!

Oh Crap!

I was getting tires rotated at Sears and noticed the rear beginning to sag a bit. I checked fuse and it was blown again!!! Damn!!!

I just put in new compressor that worked 2 days ago, but obviously something else is causing fuse to blow. What could it be? What can I check? Perhaps old compressor isn't even fried?

Sears mechanic suggested checking the relay (also in fuse box). He said sometimes they get stuck open and that might cause fuse to over heat. But if that were true, wouldn't it mean compressor was running constantly? I would notice that as the 'vrrrrrrrrrrp vrrrrrrrrrrrrp' is quite distinct.

Any suggestions?

PS - SRS light is on. I think that might be new.
