'08 LR2 Misfire

My '08 LR2 seems to lose power on the highway. At a steady speed it jerks/pullsback...like something clogged the engine or gas line. I see posts about misfires...not sure who a misfire feels or what that means.

I took it to the dealership to get them to look at it and during the drive test they told me to change the sparkplugs first. I did that and the same thing happened. I bought genuine LandRover sparkplugs so did I need to gap them? I thought they would come gapped correctly. Anything else I need to try before taking it back to the maintenance.

Have them check the PVC valve. That's what happened to mine.

Pvc

What is the PVC?

I think he meant PCV Valve

Let us know if you find a PCV valve on your LR2. I've never found one on mine. I recall reading somewhere that instead of a conventional PCV valve, there's some type of emissions device integrated into one of the hoses. Sorry I don't have more specific info on this.

PCV valve on this engine is built into the camshaft cover-cover, large black plastic housing on top of the engine, directly behind the coils.

Generally coils are the reason for misfires on this engine, but plugs are always a good maintenance repair if not recently changed. And no, never gap a modern(precious metal) plug, you can easily damage the plating and significantly reduce the lifespan and performance of it.

Is your check engine light on? - does it flash when the vehicle pulls power?

If no CEL, it's not a misfire, and I would be looking at fueling. These vehicles don't have common issues with fuel pressure being low(usually fine or nothing at all) but the MAFS is a very suspect component, and is the main input when it comes to fuel delivery.

Does it accelerate without issue, and only act up at steady speed? what speed?

Thanks for the additional info on the location of the PCV valve. I just looked it up and it seems to be integrated into the cover with part ID# LR023777. Apparently, you have to replace the entire cover as it's sold as a single assembly.

I had a similar misfire. There was a code for the fuel pressure sender, so the mechanic replaced that.

He also replaced the PCV valve as a precaution.

If it work's fine in the morning then hesitates when it warms up I would suspect the MAF. Easy to replace.
