Default 2010 lr2 water pump

I have a 2010 LR2 that needs a water pump....i have the old out, but the new one came with the pump, gasket, bolts, and a small plastic piece that i have no idea where it goes.

Can anyone tell me what this is for and where it goes????

The small plastic piece goes in the center of the power steering pump and helps center the water pump coupler. It stays in place once it’s all assembled.

It will only fit into the power steering pump one way. And that's right - there isn't one installed from the factory. It's included with replacement water pumps though to help mechanics and DIY'ers complete the repair successfully without the long term problems that pulley misalignment might cause.

Just looking at your photo. It looks like the casting is cracked on that pump!

I see a scratch on the base plate, doesn't look like a problem.

It doesn't extend into the edge of the plate.

I suspect that's a "stock" photo...

Actually there are two lines near the top, one's obviously a scratch I think, the other smaller one might be a crack but it's hard to see the edge. But I think that's just a steel plate, not a casting or forging, so it should be pretty hard to crack?

And it does look like a stock photo...
