Extremely loud squeal coming from the starter area.
I get a loud constant high pitch squeal that sound like it's coming from the starter/ transfer case area. It does not change with engine rpms, just stays constant. It starts a few seconds after the engine starts and can be heard winding down a few seconds after turning it off. I dont want to just start tearing stuff apart. Any thoughts?

Same
Mine started too last week. Super annoying. Couldn’t pin point the sound. But mine finally threw some codes so after I changed the tps and throttle body and I started her up it stopped. Maybe a pin hole in a hose or vacuum leak. Wish I could help more.

Fixed
It is the oil trap deflector/PCV piece. There is a YouTube video that shows exactly this issue. If you remove the oil cap or dip stick while it’s running and whistling and it goes away then that’s your key to diagnosing it.

Land Rover LR2 whining or squeal noise
It’s your transfer crankcase PVC valve cover. I’ve had to replace mine twice in two years on my 2009 LR2. When the engine is idle you’ll hear the sound, pull the oil dip stick and the sound disappears that will confirm.

I've replaced the PCV twice within 2-3 years, still makes a mild honking noise when cold although that goes away after warmup. Very occasionally pops the dipstick out.
