I thought about that but I can make my own "throaty" engine noises. That's really the only benefit to spending that money, and probably why the silence is deafening.

My Freelander 2 has been nothing short of stellar. The only time she goes to the dealer is for the annual service and MoT and both are always done before lunch with no surprises. The biggest service bill I got was when the timing belt needed doing, but I knew that one was coming, so it hardly comes as surprise. The Freelander 2 is really the most reliable car Land Rover ever made. The 2.2 liter diesel engine used in the Freelander has enjoyed a very good reputation in other cars it's been used for, they can get to high mileages without any problems. A 2013 Freelander 2 is as good as it's going to get.

In the city of San Francisco, base model LR2's are taxicabs. It's not a peformance vehicle.

My 2 cents, only change the exhaust if you have to. My model OEM is insane manifold back, but there is nothing wrong with my system and the original is holding up well even in my salty winter environment.

Dumb question: Why did LR use a timing belt for this model/year when timing chains are so much more durable?

Ask Volvo. It's their engine.

I think the diesel engine might be a BMW.
