06 LR3 or 99 4Runner?
Hey All-
In a bit of time-sensitive pickle I've created for myself. I've stumbled across a 3rd gen 4Runner at a good price (I think?) and I'm contemplating swapping it out with my '06 LR3. If anyone can be objective here (totally get why this group in particular may not be), does it make sense? I'm down with everything that makes the LR3 special, but a 4Runner, even a 1999 3rd gen, seems like a better long-term play for reliability and eventual resale. I occasionally tow locally and the 4Runner can technically accommodate the boat but it's close.
The contenders:
'06 LR3: well-sorted now, 125k miles, roached leather and clearcoat on the flat surfaces, could probably sell locally for $5k
'99 4Runner A/T, bone stock, drives well, 2nd set of wheels (steelies w/ worn studded snows), 95k miles (not a typo), CA car but has some rust underneath and in one spot on the body, Cosmetically a C- with peeling clear and some dings. Original owner, 92 years old. $6500
Told the 4R owner I'd come by tomorrow 6/3 with cash. Thinking I can clean and flip it if it doesn't make sense to replace the LR3.

As a hard core offroader maybe go with the toyoda, a comfortable tourer with style, stick with the disco.
We stopped getting the 4runner in the early 90's, when i was 16 i liked the SR5 single cab (1984) right up until i drove one. The gutless 22R couldnt pull the skin off a cold custard, it was common to drop V8's or the buick 3.8 V6 into them.

C'mon man? Could you sound any stupider than that? "terrorists drive Toyotas" are you serious with that? You have a VW apparently (by your autosig) does that mean you're a ****?
Now, if you were trying to be funny....that would have been funny AF in-person. Tone doesn't come over well via text.

Due to the overwhelming response in favor of the 4Runner, I bought it.
I always want to have a project going, and this scratches that itch. It's unfortunately not a great looker, much like my LR3, so eventually I'll need to get a "grown up" truck but in the meantime I'll go through it and eventually make up my mind for which one to keep. It's not "boring" but it does fall short of the LR3 in a lot of ways. The PO probably didn't know about the leaking seals on the rear axle, but that appears to be the worst of it. PITA but not a huge deal.
