Default 2006 - Lower control arms / Lower A-arms brand question

Hello,

My 2006 LR3 requires new lower control arm bushings. Based on my research, common sense dictates replacing the lower control arms and lower suspension ball joints is easier and better than attempting to just replace the bushings. Considering I am at 160,000 miles / 257,000 kilometres it is overdue!

With the lower control arms, I see a manufacturer called Meyle (their HD line-up).

Has anyone had experience with this brand? Other than genuine LR, are there any brands someone might recommend?

Keep in mind Britpart sells two versions of the arm, one is OEM repackage and the other is some lesser made one.

The Meyle are good, i fitted just the bushes as my arms had been replaced previously and the BJ's were still like new.

I am ordering a set of lower control arms for our 2005 LR3 HSE HD. I see several different options,
1. OEM from Merriam are around $300 each. Liquid Bushes.
2. Allmakes from Lucky8, $288 for a pair including hardware. Liquid Bushes.
3. FCS Euro has the Meyle HD (solid bushes, not liquid filled) for $339.48 a pair, no hardware included. Lifetime warranty.
4. Atlantic British has a IM Axle UK brand for $226 per side. not sure on the bushes.

I see the link for the set from LR Direct out of the UK for $100 each, plus shipping $85. Looks like they are Britpart. Assume that they are liquid bushes since they are OEM, without the fancy box.

Recommendations? I like the lifetime warranty from FCS. Our LR3 has 148,000 miles on it. It had new lower control arms installed at around 75,000 miles. Need another set now.

Any ride difference in the Meyle HD solid bushes vs. the liquid bushes? thanks Phil

Britpart only resells, they don't make those arms. They are made the the original OEM maker and put into a basic box with no labels, etc. Personally when it comes to bushings, the original style is best but I would not bat an eye at solids. I doubt most could even tell the difference.

I will agree, provided we are only talking about the front lower control arms (preferably only the rear bushing of the front lower control arm). Not that I want to start the whole "Rubber vs Poly" debate. But several of us have had bad experiences with replacing everything with poly bushes.

As for the brand, of control arm, you have received some good advice. Just remember, on a 6,000 lb vehicle, the control arms is not a place to go "cheap"

Default replaced lower control arms, sway bar links and sway bar bushings

So I finally got the LR3 over to the shop to replace the front lower control arms, the sway bar links and the sway bar bushings. Had a local shop do it for $300 total. I then took it over to the alignment shop for a four wheel alignment, $90. I bought the lower control arm hardware but they ended up not needing it, the old parts came off cleanly. I will save it in case I need it on the Range Rover Sport. Tackling that job next week. With the hot weather we have had, I noticed that a/c is a bit sporadic so it is in need of a freon recharge.

The LR3 drives like new, it is so refreshing not to have it sound like a bag of bolts when going over any uneven roads. If you are in that boat, don't delay.

I got the lower control arms from Lucky8, with hardware, $110 per side. The sway bar links were $35 from FCP Euro. I bought the sway bar bushings a while ago, I think from Atlantic British. As I recall, they were around $30. Labor for install was $300. Alignment was $90, ride quality is priceless!

$110 per side is a bargain, if i could get them that cheap i wouldn't bother replacing bushes.

Just a quick update.

I had a chance to drive the LR3 on the freeway yesterday, WOW! It is like driving a sports car. The difference is amazing. It drives like a new truck. Bummed that I waited so long to replace the lower control arms. I am very pleased with the new parts and the difference in ride. Now for the 2006 Range Rover Sport, I have a ruptured bushing on the passenger side lower control arm, gotta love our San Diego roads, I don't do this much damage when off-roading!
