Default 2006 LR3 PCV Valve

When trying to correct intermittent misfires, thought I would replace the PCV valve too. All was better than ever, good fuel trims, no misfires.. all good. After a couple of days car drove fine, then smoke poured out the tail pipes! Temps perfect. Looked like the end. Then saw a YouTube mechanic explain a stuck PCV valve can cause smoke. Swapped back to the old one and all is good.... for now. Live values look even better.
How does the 2006 LR3 PCV valve work? I could blow air through the new and old part, no difference I could tell in the parts. Why would one give good results and the new PCV give bad? The new did fit in the snug in the valve cover; thought that would be good.

Was the new one OEM? As for how they work, I think it is based on vacuum load. So by default they are open, but under heavy vacuum they start to close up (which would be during idle). If they fail I believe the vacuum is strong enough to pull in oil which of course burns and causes the smoke. How to test? Not sure. Maybe with a shop vac. I tend to consider it a 75k miles maintenance item and go with an OEM part.

Very odd then. Not really sure. Have you tried putting it back in yet again?

Think I'll drive it a few days before I do anything. Still have some fear it could be a blown gasket or cracked head. Only have seen a car smoke that much close to dying.
Odd thing, the smoke was nearly white, implying coolant (I use orange Prestone Dex-cool) but the smell and loss of 1/2 a quart of oil, makes me think it was oil. Maybe Mobil 1 burns fairly white

Where did you buy it? The market is loaded with fake OEM. Did you buy it from a reputable source?

My old PCV valve did this same thing when it flew the coop
Tons of white smoke, very disconcerting to say the least haha

Replaced valve with new OEM, problem solved

Yeah.. that is why I find this odd. I doubt BPoU is selling counterfeits though, at least I would hope not. Problem is the fakes are soooo good and sometimes they are 100% fine to use.
