Default 2006 lr3 rear diff question

Brought lr3 to garage to get rear locking diff replaced after much noise. Ordered the replacement diff. A non locking diff arrived. I was than told there are no like no locking diffs available. They said they could install it in place of the locking diff and reprogram to disable the rear locking function. But they were not sure if the gear ratio was the same. Anybody every try this? Any thoughts?

Thanks
Eric

No, never heard of this. What was the cause of the problem? What did the shop tell you was wrong? Symptoms? I would think it could be rebuilt or a locking diff found.

Did they tell you they ordered the non-locking diff or did they just order it and tell you later?

Symptom was a whinning sound at lower speeds. Almost like i had a different size tire on one back side. Also was noticibly louder on highway. When i had it at dealer for 75k maintenance they alao told me i needed a rear diff and if i didnt change it it would keep fetting louder and eventually go. They offered to do it for $2700. I declined. They were right about it getting louder though so after a few months i brought it to a local shop that works on many euro high end vehicles. They agreed it needs a rear diff. Said they can get a uses one for $900 and install would be about 4 hours labor. So for $1500 it didnt sound to bad. They gave me a loaner and off i went. They assumed i had a non locking diff i guess and ordered it. Next day when rear diff arrived they realized it was not right. Told me they cant find a rebuilt one.
