Default 2006 Range Rover Sport Air Conditioning Issues

The AC on our 2006 Range Rover Sport has worked flawlessly. It would run cold, about 40 degrees at the vents. Recently, the AC would run for about 20 minutes then would stop cooling. If I turned it off for several minutes, 3 to 5, and turned it back on, the AC worked again, for 10 to 20 minutes and then repeat. We had the AC Freon evacuated and refilled, 1.2 - 1.3 pounds according to the tech. Problem persists. No noticeable difference in the on/off issues. Truck has 48,000 miles.

Is there a way to test to see if it is the ac compressor? Any other possible problems that would cause the on/off issue? Thanks Phil

Did they do live pressure readings? Those can help. What you describe seems like there is a restriction in the system and *maybe* the high pressure side is getting too high or the low getting too low because of the eventual imbalance. That causes it to shutdown. Then the two sides balance out to equal pressure and you can fire it up again. So operating pressures over that time frame help and it should show them getting out of spec if that's the issue.

Thank you DT, what would be a fix for pressures being off? Phil

Well its just a theory, you need to test it out. The AC tech should have some tips on that if its the issue. Basically you need to find the restriction, could be the expansion valve, dryer or even some debris in the orifice. Some shops can do a back flush to purge stuff out.

A bit more information on my AC issue. AC is working really well, until it isn't. It blows cold, 40 degree for about 20 minutes, then AC seems to quit cooling, also the speed of the air coming out of the vents seems to slow down to about 1/2 normal. It happened yesterday at the shop. They checked the freon level, normal, pressures were normal. The AC line that runs on the driver's side of the engine and then through the firewall would freeze, when we shut off the AC, the ice on the line would melt and then when the AC was turned on again, it worked fine for about 15 to 20 minutes. The metal line would freeze up again and the AC would stop cooling. The tech thought that it might be a blend door that was closing and was cutting off the air flow. Ideas? (Note - My driver's side foot well blend door is not synced to the servo motor so I have removed the motor. It has been working fine for 4 years
thanks
