Default CEL P0171 P0174 Help.

I recently purchased a 2006 LR3 SE V8 4.4 with 68,000 miles. I have been reading the forum and love it! It has been a big help as I have changed transfer case fluid, Front and rear diff fluid and cabin air filter. Thank you guys for all your help.

On to my problem. The other day I started my LR3 and the check engine light came on. I checked the codes and they were P0171 and P0174. I cleared the codes and I drove it for about 3 days. Then I started it one morning and the light was back on. I checked the forum and people suggested MAF problems. I bought some CRC MAF cleaner and cleaned the MAF and cleared the code. The light stayed off again for about 2 or 3 days and one morning when I started it the light came back on. The light seems to come on right at start up. Not after a while or driving down the road.

Thanks for your time. I appreciate the help.

Thanks for the reply.
Just an update I went to go to the store tonight and when I started the engine the check engine light went off. I have a feeling it will be an on again off again thing. Anyone else have this issue?

might have to run it a few full drive cycles to reset the computer/emissions circuit. A couple long drives should do it. Keep an eye on it ove the next few weeks and see if it goes away. If not, some additional diagnosing work will be needed and perhaps the replacement of some sensors.

You may still have a MAF issue, as cleaning seems to only help about 50% of the ones I see.

Could also be a vacuum/air leak somewhere.

Thanks for the replies. I appreciate the feedback. An update. I cleaned the throttle body and when I removed the intake piping I found one of the hose clamps was very loose. After cleaning the throttle body and tightening all the clamps the engine starts easier and the light has stayed off. Hope I fixed it?????

Its possible. I have seen very small leaks cause fault codes to set. Wait and see!

Was the hose clamp you tightened on the top, passenger side of the intake?

I don't honestly remember. What I do believe finally fixed my problem was the replacement of the ignition capacitor. Once I changed that the light has stayed off.

Wow I would have never guessed that. I'll remember that. Congrats!

I removed my intake and when I put the clamp on the hose you mentioned I didn't get it tight and got some codes and a flashing brake light on the dash, and it was all related to vacuum. Apparently you got yours on good. Anyway, success.
