Default close to picking up an lr3 but I have a question

I just checked out a 2006 HSE. Drove nice with no odd clunks or noises. Over all good condition with service records. When I tested the Terrain Response stuff, the lift switch raised to offroad with no problem but the switch would not take it back to normal or access. Also the low range switch wouldn't respond. Of the others I have tested would chime and the light would flash before switching. This one does nothing. Driving it around didn't make any faults pop up and it was able to lower itself back to normal height when I got up to speed. To me it would seem that the switches are at fault. But I'm curious if there is a chance there is another issue I should check into before grabbing this guy.

Most faults with the D3 throw up faults but not necessarily fault lights so to be sure you need to see if any codes show up. This needs a code reader of some sort.

There is another recent post with the same issues, less the high/low issue. Probably bad switches which is not uncommon. Especially is something was spilled or sunroof left open. Im not sure if they can be opened and cleaned but most seem to just replace the switches. And if terrain response is working, then it even more points to switches. If there was a deeper issue, terrain reposes usually faults and becomes inactive.

My 2007 LR3 has the same issue, am going to try to replace the switches, rather than the complete assembly, but other life stresses seem to be getting in the way. When you press the up/down switch, apparently you are just sending a ground signal to the microprocessor that controls height, so in theory it should not be difficult to replace the switch, as long as one can find the correct physically sized switch...

all good info. and yes it the terrain response seems to work otherwise. turning the **** will put it into the different modes with no issue. Thanks for the help. Just thought I would get a second opinion. Just got out of a bad relationship with an audi... never do that again. This will be my second rover. I had a disco 2 before this. Not nearly as complicated but probably similarly temperamental.

Ummm I hate to be a bucket of water, but if you decide to “pick up” a Land Rover - any Land Rover- it will make the Audi seem as reliable as a Toyota Camry.

Rovers are neat vehicles in many respects, but always have a backup vehicle for when yours is in the shop, and preferably not another rover.

I get what you are saying. I have an affinity for vehicles that require you to spend more time under them than in them. As I said before this will be my second rover and I currently daily and rx7 that I have now owned for 11 years. Audi's are actually pretty solid cars but just have terribly overly complicated computer systems for simple functions. All in all it seems like I am just replacing one complicated vehicle for another. In my opinion audi's just aren't worth the effort. To me rovers and my rotary are.

Just want to give everyone an update. I did end up picking up the disco. I pulled the switch apart cleaned the contacts under the switches and it is all working. Pretty simple fix. Well taking the switch panel apart is a pain but happy to report it wasn't a major problem. Ended up getting a pretty sweet deal since the repair was unknown.

Congratulations! When I get some time I'll pull the terrain response console and try cleaning the switches first, was it much of a job to remove the switch covers?

getting the panel out of the truck is easy. its just 1 screw by the parking brake. the switches themselves are snapped together. if you have a second set of hands it isnt too bad. you have to hold all the snaps open at the same time to open it. oh and you will need to remove the switch caps and ****. just pull each of them up and they should snap off. i will try and get some picture up.
