Cracked Dash
Other than the fabric that is just starting to separate from the sun visors on my '05 model, the cracked dash is the really the only "weak" part of my otherwise well-maintained LR that is in excellent condition. The interior is just shy of being like new because I maintain it and take care to not allow it to be abused...to include the use of a sunshade. But in two years, the dash cracks have spread like dandelions across a pristine lawn; from what was once only a single crack at the corner of the airbag outline.
It is a major sore point with my wife and a major embarrassment when friends or new acquaintances are impressed and excited to ride in the LR, to only settle into the seat and notice the dash...ewwww!

I bought the truck used and out of warranty. Dash cracks started and never looked back. Got much worse this winter with the hard freeze/humidity we had in the south this year. Luckily LRNA picked up the tab on the parts. Pick up the new dash torrow and will have it installed.
Important: for those of you replacing your dashes, make sure to get a new VIN plate (free from LR). The plates are made to be destroyed when removing the old dash to prevent fraud. You will need a new one.

I contacted lrna, here is the response.

Yes, I had to do that too. After you get the quote, LRNA will probably offer something along the lines of taking care of the part and you are responsible for the install labor. And you have to get it done at a dealership. You can probably get the dealer to just give you the dash directly if you call and make nice with the service personal who provide the quote, hint hint. Then have it installed, or do it yourself, for a lot less. I think it's billed as a 7 hour job.
Seems to be. Whatever material they used does not stand up well to humidity. During the process of getting all the necessary part numbers, a service manager at LR Birmingham informed me that the replacement parts have a different type of material all together. Which is apparently why the parts were back ordered for an eternity while LR figured out a solution. I'll get some photos of the new dash together (it's sitting in my garage awaiting a replacement VIN plate prior to install). It appears to be similar but has a slightly rougher/tougher material on top. I poked around an LR4 while I was there and that one had a full on upholstered leather dash.

My plan is to keep the old dash and have it upholstered like the LR4s. Then if the new one cracks I'll have a direct replacement then do the same thing to that one. It's worth it when the thing costs $2,000 including labor.
I just got an estimate for the dash replacement. $1770, including tax, the dash alone was $1015! I sure wish that there was an alternative to the full dash replacement. The dash is on a very, very long back order ie 6 months. Phil
