dvd nave in dash unit
has anyone put in a pioneer AVIC-D3 in dash unit for an SE or similar how did it fit and how do you like it this one for the dollar looks like it night be the ticket you can even put in a back up camera, blue tooth, everything ... any one put one in i ws told it would fit but i think you might need a spacers on the sides
Installing anything to replace the factory head unit is not an easy task. To my knowledge, no one makes a dash kit for the LR3 to install and aftermarket system so one has to be custom made. I would only trust this task to a reputable custom installer/shop that can make you a custom dash trim piece out of fiberglass that matches the contour of the factory dash plate. I have seen a picture of one done that looked factory on a car forum somewhere on the web. it takes allot of work but can be done. I am trying to find a nav unit that fills the gap and make a fiberglass trim ring for the factory navi location since I didnt have navi stock. Allot cheaper option than replacing the already awesome Harmon/Kardon factory system.

i am not to worried about the fiberglass on the sides my dad and i both can do that he used to bo surfboards back in the day and i have played with fiberglass alot growing up i am more worried about the wiring i have heard the lr3 has an optic cable or somthing and not shure if it is a real pain in the butt to wire up or if it is as simple as wiring up my gmc.
It would not be a wiring mess to a reputable/established/professional car stereo shop. But, since it is powered by a factory amplifier it is very confusing to figure out what wire is for what function. If you have to have an aftermarket head unit, I suggest leaving all factory wiring intact, untouched and run all new wiring from scratch. However, if you have no experience in doing this it will be quite difficult to pull off running new wires to each speaker through door grommets etc....
High powered multi speaker factory stereos are typically wired differently from aftermarket systems and cannot be easily tied into or used with an aftermarket head unit without some type of impedance/signal matching device.
If you want more low end, I suggest getting a powered sub (ex. 10" powered Bazooka Tube) that accepts a high level input signal from the factory LR sub location in the tailgate.
Personally, I prefer the factory system to an aftermarket = less hedache
