Default A fun thread idea....

....during lock-down.

How would you rank Land Rover models, in terms of off-roading ability, and why? STOCK....

Def'n of stock: tires and armor are the only upgrades allowed.

GO!

The original RRC, short wheelbase, excellent articulation from the suspension, low gearing reasonable brakes.
D1 would be next as its almost identical as an RRC except better built (just) and with the TDI diesel option is a very frugal tourer/offroader.

Hard to not go with the Defender though, no?

I have the LR3 over anything but the Defender. Here is my rationale:

1. Not sure about "articulation" per se but the wheel travel is really good for an indy suspension with 10" in front and 13" in the rear.
2. Better crawl ratio than the RRC and the D1...I think. The D2 had a paltry crawl ratio of 28.7:1. I can't imagine the D1 or RRC being much better than that. The D90 is 40:1. LR3 is 45:1.
3. HDC and 4ETC are excellent on the LR3, non-existent on the RRC and D1...as far as I know. Even if those have TC, it's first gen. 4ETC is a vast improvement. HDC improved greatly from that in the D2, as well.
4. Better ground clearance than any prior Rover, at least down the center due to the diffs being tucked up.
5. Finally: Rear Locker....and that's the game winner!

....and yes, I started this thread with extreme bias, just for fun, and I love to argue, respectfully of course.

I have driven a few different County / Defender variants, V8,TDI,TD5 and Isuzu powered, great tourer but zero ergonomics and not that great offroad in 110 form.
The 90 would be better for 2 up.

Default Ranking...then

1. D90
2. LR3/RRS/LR4
3. L322
4. D110
5. RRC
6. D1
7. D2
8. P38

...I don't know enough about Series Rovers to rank them. Evoques, Velars and Freelanders are just too awful to be ranked.

Thoughts??

Being an odd duck, I have to say. the best Land Rover is the one sitting in my driveway. All the horsepower/ approach angle/ gear ratios
/ etc etc are meaningless if I don't get to drive it.

I know this is not what you intended in the first post, but you did say you like to argue (As do I!).

I do like to argue, but that's a whole new direction!

What if I think my right foot is better than yours? Hahahaha....now we need a contest to determine the best driver on this message board!!!
