K&N Air Filter - Good or Bad for LR3
New to the forum and hoping this one is as good as the VW and Mercedes SL forums I frequent.
I own a 2006 LR3 V8 SE. I have been thinking about putting a K&N air filter into it to help the gas mileage a little bit. I have read a couple different things on this, some saying it works great others saying the oil lube in the filter causes problems downstream.
Looking for comments from the forum on this. Good, bad, you have done, so on and so forth.
Thanks in advance.

K&N air filters will kill any Bosch MAF within months of installation, don't do it.

Ditto. Exactly what happened to my MAF sensor after about a month of running K&N. The dealer was nice and changed it under warranty without raising a big stink about it, but the tech did tell me aside that the K&N was the culprit and they put a new LR filter and gave me the K&N back. On a side note, I didn't notice any better milage nor better power with the K&N the month I had it in.

K&N's might make a difference on old vehicles with poorly engineered intakes, but wont make a huge difference with our newer LR's
There are 2 main issues when using K&N's people should be aware of.
#1 Stated previously the oil that makes K&N's work(sticky oil catches the dust/dirt) can get on the MAF causing it to fail.
#2 K&N's do not filter as well as a standard filter, you'll be getting more dust and crap in your engine which isnt good. I dont care how many people say it filters better, it doesn't nuff said
