New Suspension Compressor Question
I own a 2006 LR3 I bought new. About 8 years ago, the suspension compressor was replaced at the Land Rover dealer. I paid $1,600.00 at the time parts and labor. The replacement compressor has now gone out and the dealer wants $2,000.00 to do the replacement, which I believe is outrageous). I have watched a couple of videos on replacing the compressor and I feel I can do the work myself. I see new compressors being sold on line for anywhere from $300.00 to $1,000.00. Apparently there is an original "Hitachi Style" and a newer higher cost "AMK Style." (which dealers have been installing lately as replacements). My questions are as follows:
1. Would my 8 year old compressor be a Hitachi or AMK? 2. How would I know which one I have? 3. I understand that if the car has already been "modified" for the AMK, that one cannot install the Hitachi. 4. Some compressors (both Hitachi and AMK closes) advertise the car does not have to be reprogrammed by the dealer. How do I know if the one I buy has to be reprogrammed and under what circumstances? Any other advice would be appreciated Keith |
Pull off the bottom cover and post a photo. We can tell you which one you have. It you exchange like for like, no programming.

It's not a bad job. I think the last time I did one the biggest hassle was pulling my slider off.

Okay,
I got the compressor cover off and snapped this photo. Hopefully one of you are able to tell me which style of suspension compressor I have. Thanks in advance... Keith https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/landrov...51e2e2848b.jpg |

If the compressor isn't completely dead, you can buy rebuild kits for them.
