Default Outside Temp Display

OK, I have looked all through the owner's manual and can not find this. Last week while driving my LR3, the outside temp display changed. It normally says "EXT nn' where nn is the temperature. The "EXT" changed to a snowflake or a star (whatever you want to call it). It stayed that way for a couple of days and now it is back to EXT. Does anyone know what this means?

It should have given you a loud "ding" when it first changed over to the snow flake. It means that the system is warning you that the outside temperatureis cold enough for ice to begin to form. It ususaly happens around the 39F range. Not sure if it takes humidity into account or not but it just means to take more care with your driving as finding "black ice" has just become a real posibility
