Default Parking Brake

My parking brake has a mind of its own!

The yellow warning light comes on when I engage it. The red light flashes when it's engaged. It took me FOREVER to disengage the parking brake the other day! I was moments away from manually doing so when it just worked. Once there was a loud grinding noise...then it went away.

I took it to the service department and they said it looked fine? What on Earth is going on? Any ideas?

I had the same issues with mine. I took off the rear wheels and had to re-adjust the tension on the parking brakes. It fixed the issues you're experiencing.

You can find the procedure here:

Guys, don't be fooled into thinking you've fixed the parking brake with a simple adjustment. Those brakes have to be calibrated to the parking module. I just bought an LR3 with 57K miles. Someone had replaced the brakes (pads and shoes) and did not use the proper LR tool to calibrate the brakes. I just experienced a catastrophic failure. $4100.00 later, after new right rear spindle assembly and brake cable, the technician still has to calibrate the module. They don't know yet if the parking module survived. If it didn't that's another 1500. I was lucky to find a salvaged RR spindle assembly and saved 1K. The Parking module pulls 2500lb pressure on those shoes. If they're not calibrated exactly, the module "thinks" the brakes aren't set and continues to pull. My right rear exploded. I will post pix once I receive from Land Rover.
