Default Question and Help for Quick Release hitch

OK, I got a hitch off of eBay (and wiring harness from AB). The hitch won't install into the receiver, though.

The locking pin retracts until about 3/8" remains, and that seems to be about 1/8" too long to slide past the sleeve and into the slot.

The sleeve is too stout to nudge the hitch with a ball peen hammer, so is this normal, something I haven't learned yet, or do I grind the lip down?

Thanks, from a frustrated guy that needs the hitch.

This might be the problem...there's a small chrome pin at the top of the hitch. When I turn the locking lever, I feel a bit of movement in that small pin, but it doesn't move.

My guess is that it's supposed to retract for some reason.

Will somebody confirm or correct that the small pin moves (or doesn't) when the lever is turned?

It's kind of a bummer when a forum offers up nothing to what would seem to be a question about a common item.

21 hits and nobody can tell me whether their quick release hitch's pin on top moves when the lever is turned? C'mon, guys, help me out, will ya?

If it's broken, then it goes back to seller. However, I don't want to hassle anybody until I know I'm right...and that is where our forum comes in.

And the answer is?

I do not have a quick release hitch pin and am not familiar with them that much, but would be interested in what you found out for future reference.

Sure, I'm happy to help! It's comical that something as basic as a hitch receiver would need instructions, but the lever that turns ALSO needs to be pulled out. That allows the turn to rotate more and the pin retracts all the way into the housing.

P.S. Installing the wiring harness was a two beer job (only one if it weren't 90 degrees). Straightforward and simple. It can be done while the spare is still on the truck, too.

the pictures on the **** seems pretty clear, unless for some reason all who have posted here did not have such engravings on the green part.

I didn't have a key for the one that was stuck in my bumper when I bought my 3, so I kinda figure I broke the lock and messed it up a bit trying to take it off. I had to take it apart and adjust it some to get it to work again. Just a heads up for anyone who is thinking about maybe doing the same; there are a few parts in there that have to be just right for it to work. (I still don't have a key, but who would steal such a goofy looking thing that only works on Land Rovers?)

I have a situation similar to bamaboy473's initial thread: the locking pin retracts until about 3/8 of the pin remains but the lever does not retract the pin such that I can get the hitch into the sleeve. In fact, the lock does not hold the pin retracted (like it did a few months ago). Even with the key in place, the lever acts like the gears inside are stripped and the pin just snaps back out.

Wondering if any others experienced this issue with an OEM Quick Release Hitch and if so, how did you fix it (I don't want to buy another $500 QR hitch receiver)?
Thanks in advance.
