Upper tailgate switch replacement

It appears like the upper tailgate switch is on the fritz. Once in awhile the switch would not respond to a touch. No noise, nothing. Then the switch began to fail most of the time. I took the switch out and found that the metal plate was somewhat corroded but the switch itself looked ok.
I cleaned it up and reinstalled with success. I have also ordered a new switch for my 06 LR3. I noticed that the switch was hardwired and I assume the new switch will have a connector. If land rover doesn't supply with both ends to fit the connector I should be ok to cut the connector on the new switch and simply use crimping tubes? Two wires, does it matter which wire connects to the switch wire?
Unless Bbyer has an extra swich from his adventures. Digikey usually sends a bunch...
On a tailgate note. When did Landrover upgrade the L shaped end on the release cable? Worth digging into now or wait till it fails?
thanks.
