Default When lowering suspension, air exits exhaust, not bank to reservoir?

Quick question, just upgraded from Hitachi to AMK compressor and when testing everything after, I noticed when it lowers from offroad to standard, the air is let out the exhaust line. I would think it would instead go back to the reservoir. Wouldn't this make more sense rather than having to run the compressor every time you want to go back up to off-road mode?

I just went over the diagrams again and read the method of operation but I am still confused why this would be how it works.

And why is the AMK exhaust so loud! lol

Cheers!

The reservoir is already pressurized, that is the main job of the compressor. Its like a shop compressor in a way, it keep the reservoir up to a specified pressure so there is always air available - especially if you are in off-road and need to go into extended or super extended modes. And even if it was left depressurized you would only get equalized pressure, you cant fill it back up to a pressure greater than what would be in the bags and with the volume of air being moved the reservoir may not even be able to hold it all so it would probably have to dump anyway. So really the system works just fine the way it is. As for exhaust, never heard an AMK compressor (FYI, its not an upgrade) but if you have the lines hooked up it should vent though the EAS muffler. Did the exhaust line come off maybe?

Yes and no. Hitachi had an availability issue (think from a Tsunami) so LR sourced a second supplier. To this day you can get either brand compressor from LR. The specs are the same. So there is no "upgrade" really. Just a different brand.

Many thanks for the replies folks! DakotaTraveler, that makes perfect sense!

Now I wish I didn't "upgrade" since it is apparently not an upgrade and honestly it is way slower than my Hitachi! I'd say 25% longer to Off-Road height. I went based on Lucky8's suggestion to upgrade and go with the OEM AMK. When I bought my Rover, the owner tossed in a freshly rebuilt Hitachi. The original detonated so I put in the rebuild. Works great but I was always paranoid not really knowing its history, who rebuilt it, etc. I figured for the price it was worth the peace of mind on the trail that it is brand spankin new. Now I wish I just went Hitachi darn it!

As for the insanely loud exhaust, yep, all the lines are hooked up. I do have the bottom cover off at the moment, I'm sure that doesn't help but darn it is loud. I also had no idea that the exhaust routes up to the muffler and then back down into the compressor housing. Scared the heck out of me when I was testing and it "farted" right in my face when I was leak testing the install!

Did you get the software updated after fitting the AMK ?

Really shouldn't be that loud if the proper inlet/exhaust pipes and silencer are correctly fitted. For the AMK compressor you should have part Nē LR032649 or if the old one for the Hitachi was not removed it's LR018308. Check that the silencer is not missing or damaged.
