Hi all , quick question on my 07 LR3. My left headlight burned out at 109k, any recommendations on replacement bulbs? And how difficult are they to change? Also should I do both of them?
I am sure the dealer will want quite a bit.. Someone recommended Phillips xenon replacements?

Haven't replaced mine yet 113k . YouTube has great videos on how to remove the headlamp assembly . I am not sure what type of bulb manufacture is better since I haven't replaced mine yet . Looks like a easy swap there not cheap tho . And remember don't touch the bulb with your hands !

 

actually I took the time to look at the manual. You take the grill off, no tools required, unplug the electrical connector and the release two slide bars and the headlight assy comes out. Then you have access to all the bulbs. So now my concern is finding the right xenon bulbs 55w (D2S).. Anyone with some helpful advice?

 

Phillips bulbs are at amazon for 40ish.

There are other bulbs cheaper and others more expensive.

 

I'd go OE....at >100k miles before replacement, that seems like a good bet.

 

Yes OE sounds good to me but dealer wants $394 for a $%(*&^# light bulb

 

Pull the old one out and see what brand it is.

For that price you could probably get two of the same brand but aftermarket. Just so they match. Heck you might even be able to find the exact same bulb aftermarket and buy just one.

 

The link below is to a file, (in spite of the apparent name displayed), with some information on the 4300K OEM Philips D2S 85122 bulb that is in your 3. The 4300K colour is optimum for visibility - that is for seeing what is in front of the vehicle, hence the reason it is OEM.

As well as Amazon, you can find the Philips 4300K on eBay. Guys remove them from their Beamers to put in blue coloured lights to impress the chicks I suppose. With the 4300K colour, you can actually see them.

Thanks for the info. I found the phillips DS2 on amazon. 2 for about $70.. Some conflicting reviews, say they are chinese imitations, others very good. Advance auto parts sells a sylvania brand that they say fits.. So I guess I will take that advice and pull the old one and compare.. Manual says should be 55w. I assume that's what Phillips is

 

The 55 watt reference re the D2S bulbs is a typo. The bulbs have a ballast and the bulb nominal rating is 35 watts and 85 volts.

The other 55 watt reference refers both to all four bulbs re the low line headlights or the inner two high beam 55 watt H7 halogen bulbs in both the high and low line vehicles.

Xenon bulbs have a warm up time; hence they cannot be used as high beam overtaking flashers, hence the H7 Halogen even in the high line.

The high beam portion of our two main Xenon bulbs results from the use of a shutter within the projector assembly per the jpg below. When one calls for high beam, the shutter drops and allows more of the reflector to be used, hence one gets high beam as well as low beam from the same "filament". It is not like the old sealed beams where there were two separate filaments within in the "high" beam assembly.
