2014-16 LR4 common issues
Good morning everyone,
I've been a fan of LR for years, and now finally hunting for a '14 to-'16 LR4. I rebuild old motorcycles as a hobby, and diy the easy auto tasks (oil changes, brakes, repairs requiring little to some disassembly), and am aware that vehicles layered heavily with electronics can be a handful at times. I figure replacement of the air struts would be included as wear and tear. I know the range I'm looking at has a V6 with the ZF 8 speed, but from what I gather, they're still in large part the same as through out the LR4 years. Is that a correct assumption?
From the folks who have experience with the LR4's (throughout the range), are there any real common issues outside of regular wear and tear that I need to be prepared for? The big ticket items are what I'm looking for, and any clever ways owners have come up with to prevent the premature failing.
Thanks for any wisdom you great folks can bestow on me,
Wesley

Mine is a 2010 and has been incredibly reliable. Water pumps fail early - watch out for the tell tale leak. But not sure of any chronic issues. They eat brakes and tires - hardly more than 15k miles on pads and rotors and not much more than that on tires. So check and factor that into pricing as it's about $1000 per axle for pads/rotors at dealer (vastly cheaper if you do it yourself and pretty easy)

Gentlemen, thank you.
I figured the heft of these vehicles would increase the frequency of tires/ brakes/ suspension components needing replacements. Through the research here, it seems that the powertrain and running gear are pretty stout, with just a few outliers being the opposite.
Great site!

I run a 2016 LR4 3.0 SDV6 from new, admittedly it's a 'dirty' diesel, which to date has been great with only 35K miles on the clock. The later versions had slightly more power and some of the earlier glitches sorted. The ZF like all ZF's is bombproof. The only comment is the maintenance servicing must be done regularly on time to maintain the warranty and keep the LR4 in good reliable trim.
