Default 2016 LR4 blown head gasket

Looking for advice. Our 2016 LR4 lux just blew a head gasket. We’ve had it for 7 months, it has 92k miles. Calling around it looks like it will need a new engine, which we can’t afford to do.

Are there people who can rebuild an engine themselves that would buy this from us? Still owe $20k…

What other advice do you have for this situation?

Unfortunately, you are going to take a big hit financially if you try to sell it as is. Anyone looking to buy it and fix it will be looking for a deal so you will have to drop the price well below the amount it will cost to have an independent fix it. It will suck, but your least expensive option is to take it to an independent and have them put an engine in it and keep it. I have seen similar vehicles to yours go for 4-5k, you may get lucky and find someone to give you 10, but i doubt it. You way want to search through the forum and find a reputable independent nearby and have them check it out. A good one will steer you on the right path. A bad one will just make the situation worse.

Good Luck.

Assuming the engine overheated from a coolant component failure.

I’d get a second opinion on a replacement engine.

Heads removed and skimmed for flatness and new head gaskets would be a lot less expensive.

Did you decide to replace the headgasket… or the engine?
