Interesting to read as I'm seemingly in the market for an 10-13 LR4 if I can find the right one. Slightly deterred by the stories regarding time belt issues but plan on pre purchase inspection prior to taking the plunge. Never purchased a used vehicle so a whole new world to me...

New here. Lurked prior to purchase. Informed myself of all potential issues. Just purchased a week ago a 2012 LR4 HSE Lux with 67,000 miles. The dealer I purchased from had a 5 day, 250 mile no questions asked return policy, so I scheduled a "pre-purchase" inspection as soon as I could with an indy mechanic that specializes in Land Rovers. In his words, I got a "cream puff". I asked him about increasing the regular maintenance intervals and he said yes, cut them in half. I'm extremely pleased with my purchase. Can't wait to start mods.

On another note... I did look at several. I didn't care for the color of this one (Ipanema Sand), but the condition and low mileage overrode the color. Also, I only paid $21000.

2011 lr4 hse

I bought mine a year ago from a local second hand dealer here in the Toronto area. I was able to confirm some of the history with an LR dealer who serviced the vehicle. Mileage was 133,000 km or 83,000 miles. I have driven 12,000km with no real/unexpected issues.

Couple of things, the timing chains have been replaced (dealer confirmed) I would not buy this vehicle if I did not this. I have had both front Lower control arms replaced under a 3rd party warranty I bought. I expected those might be an issue. I have had a couple of intermittent tire pressure monitoring system failures but they cleared themselves in less than two days.

I do run 18 inch compomotives with 265/60 BFG K02 (amazing tires/ fairly quiet/ look great/ strong in snow but you can feel the weight and expected slight performance downgrade.

Car runs fantastic, air suspension works perfect.

Because of warranty, oil changes have to be performed by a shop and therefore I have to source the oil and filter. Changes are at 10,000km or 6 months. Pricey. About to try the Liqui Moly rated for the Ford 925A standard.

I have black wheel arch trim. No idea why but no signs of damage or anything in the Carfax.

Gas mileage is meh though the performance is excellent.

Cheers.

2102 LR4 timing chain

DO NOT BUY a 2012 LR4!!!!
The timing chain will fail at 60,000 miles and will cost $15k to fix. There are several class action suits related to this well known problem by Land Rover.
Land Rover refuses to accept responsibility and denies the problem.
Do Not Buy any Land Rover- they are dishonest scum bags!!!!!

Maybe just buy one if you enjoy working on them? I dunno, that's quite the deformation. I mean, I wouldn't go to the dealership for anything other than warranty work but that goes for any car manufacturer.

Oil change interval is key. He was probably one of the guys that changed their oil twice in 60k miles

Wrong -troll

Oil was changed every 6,000 miles...you must be one of those trolls who works for Land Rover and trying to cover your ass when I sue.

Purchased a 2010 LR4 HSE Lux with 153k miles

Hello everyone, I bought my first Land Rover today. I have always wanted one, but hesitated due to concerns over maintenance costs. My local Land Rover Indy shop spoke highly of LR3 and LR4s, so I have been searching for a good deal for a couple years. Long story short, I found a cosmetically perfect 2010 with perfect interior and 153k miles. They did not have service records, but I checked for signs of leaks on the engine and tested the air suspension thoroughly. They were asking $12,900. After a bunch of negotiating and me leaving twice. I picked up the LR4 for $7200. I plan on taking it to the Indy shop next week for some preventative maintenance. Just wondering what you guys recommend for maintenance and do you think I got a decent deal on this thing? Also, it has new tires.

Everyone I disagree with is a bot, thus you are a bot. Everyone I disagree with is a russian seeking to make the british disloyal to their own manufacturers.

Besides that, can you provide more information about your engine, why it failed, and what was done by land rover in response? I'd love to see pics of the thing ripped apart showing the problem.

Update?

Also - how the f did you get it down from $12.9k to $7200 ?????
