Tesla Style Screen from Euronavigate Installed
Hey all. I just completed the install of one of these on our 2015 LR4. Not too bad. The previously posted video (linked below) was very helpful as the included documentation was terrible - tiny photocopied pictures that are hard to make out. I'll share a few comments for anyone else who is considering installing one of these screens.
- I purchased the kit from Euronavigate knowing that it would most likely be shipped from China and be the same as I could get from aliexpress for less than half the price. I liked the idea of having a "US based" company for support if needed. It has not been needed in my case (yet). Considering the savings, I would probably go the aliexpress route if I had to do it again. That said, I have never ordered from aliexpress so there may be more risks there.
- There were some items removed in the video that did not need to be remove - the head unit with the CD player does not need to be removed. Only the climate control panel and ash tray insert need to be removed.
- For routing the aux, usb and sim card cables, I found it easier to pull the upper glove box insert. It's attached with 4 clips that are a bit of pain to pull and tend to pop off in the process. I had to bend a couple back into shape before re-inserting. It needs to go back in before re-attaching the vertical trim piece to the right (or left) of the center console. I ran the aux cable to come out just above the original usb ports then had the new usb and sim card cables come out to the left of the small fuse panel cover (didn't even know that fuse panel existed).
- I didn't like the idea of putting the speaker in the vent since it would impede airflow. I stuck it to the top of the head unit. There is just enough space under the screen. So far, that speaker hasn't spoken. I assume it's for the built-in navigation that I will probably never use.
- The plastic trim piece that goes on at the end has plastic standoffs that will take the metal clips from the removed control panel. Might seem obvious, but it was explicitly described anywhere. The screen also has 2 standoffs that look like they could take metal clips, but the screen is quite secure without them.
- I have no plans to use the built-in 4G or GPS, but I mounted the antennas just in case. I routed the GPS to sit on the right dash up against the windshield. I put the 4G antennas (there are 2) under the dash on either side of the center line directly behind the screen.
- I had a difficult time re-attaching the vertical trim on either side of the center console. It turned out there is a little plastic tab on the back of the trim pieces that has to go below a plastic part behind it. I kept trying to push it on and it wouldn't budge. After seeing where the tab was trying to go (it almost looks like it's supposed to go there), I figured out I had to pull the bottom portion of the trim piece down to clear where it had been trying to go.
- The display of the original screen content looks good and is brighter, but mine has a couple lines of red and yellow pixels going down the left side. I have not contacted support about this yet. It doesn't interfere with any operation and isn't noticeable enough to be bothersome. One thing I found is that music playing via android auto stops when switching to the original display ("console"). It can be started again by hitting play on your phone, but the play/pause button on the screen doesn't work on that mode.
- There is an echo for the person on the other end of the phone when a call is place/received via android auto. I haven't looked in to this yet. Call audio quality is not great either. Worse than the original system.
