1997 Disco LSE, project or parts
For Sale1997 Land Rover Discovery
Description:
Had a run-in with a tree, thought I could make the repairs myself, but it's not looking good. Front end grill, bumper and hood are shot, rear bumper is skewed. Rover ran great before and still does, just without any of the front end niceties like lights and grill. I'm posting the ad I have locally on CL below, but let me know if you have any questions or want additional pics. Some more pics and info at this thread: https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...vs-tree-119875
I'm in S. Lake Tahoe, 96150. Happy to put you up for a night if you want to pick it up from out of town.

Hate to do it, but need to sell my rig for parts or a project.
I just took a slide into a tree with my '97 Land Rover Discovery LSE. It took the hit right in the middle of the grill, so the grill, front bumper, bumper rail and most of the plastic and lights are shot. The rear bumper also came to rest at an awkward angle and that's mis-aligned and/or bent, blocking the rear door from opening. But other than that, the truck came out much better than I would have expected. I stripped broken parts off the front until I hit solid pieces, and that's where it stands now. I was tempted to find a donor truck and and transfer over front end parts, but I don't have the garage or storage space. Or a donor truck.
The truck still runs and drives great. I bought it 3-4 years ago from a guy whose brother let it sit for 12 years. He may have been the original owner, it's not clear. I replaced the oil, diffs, and transfer case fluids and ensured everything was in tip top shape. I've put about 5k miles on it. Everything works, including windows, sunroofs, everything in the dash, transfer case/rear locking diff, etc. The only outstanding thing I had on the list was the Anti Lock brake light was lit, although the brakes are still strong. They do not, in fact, pulsate as they should so that's something that you'd want to look at it you wanted to make this a driver again. Or not, didn't bother me too much.
Specs and info below but reach out if you have any questions.
Less than 120k miles. Engine starts immediately and runs strong.
New plugs and wires 5k ago
New brake pads all around
New tires 2.5 years and 5000 miles ago. date stamped 29/19. Goodyear Wrangler A/Ts
Transfer Case fully functional. Shift into diff lock and the light goes on, shift out, light out.
Interior is fair condition. seats have some wear, and the driver seat seems are split. It also leaked from the sunroof at some point during the 12 year rest and there is a meildewy smell in the back carpet.
Transmission shifts strong
Aftermarket stereo works
All motorized seat and mirror functions work
Cruise control does NOT work
All windows work
Seat heaters work
Small leaks from oil pan and power steering
It's dirty. It always was, and now it is more. Also, clear coat lifting throughout.
Clean title in hand
The steering wheel was slightly off center before the accident and it's a bit more but it still tracks straight.
The airbags did NOT deploy. Not sure if they are broken or if the accident wasn't hard enough to trigger
Can be driven for testing engine, tranny, transfer case, etc. but it has to be daytime because lights.
