Looking for camshaft
Anyone know where to purchase an upgraded camshaft for a 3.9L? Will a 4.2L cam help boost the 3.9L any?
I love my RR; but compared to my other vehicles it's gutless. I'm a speed/power junkie and want to make the Rover at least more torquey.
I know it's not a 427 or 454, but it's got potential. It's a daily driver so nothing crazy, just a shot in the arm.
HELP!!!!

It's a 1990 RR County. Distributor with amplifier mounted on distributor. I found a few suppliers in England, But at 120 pounds + shipping...Not sure our dollar is worth much compared to the Queen's cash.
I didn't know if a 4.2L cam was compatible with the 3.9L block (from everything I read it seems to be, but i couldn't find any specs (lift, duration, lobe seperation, etc).
Again, not looking to build a monster out of this, just looking to build some extra torque. I know bigger injectors, ported heads, exhaust headers (if you can find the secret stash of those anywhere) are excellent power upgrades, but the cam is the heart and soul of the engine.

I just got off the line with Eric at Atlantic British. I asked him about a performance upgrade for the camshaft (as I was ordering parts). He informed me that the 4.2L camshaft is a direct fit. Part #ERR5295 at $189.95 (beats the exchange rate from the Mother Land).
Apparently, the same question is asked of Atlantic British all the time as Eric didn't even hesitate to answer this.
I'm not certain of what increase I'll see, but it has to be better than the worn out 3.9L camshaft.

I got my 4.2L camshaft in yesterday...no cam spec card though. I mic'ed the lobes and roughly came up with .268 lift on this cam compared to the .230 on the 3.9L. Looks promising. I couldn't find any specs (lift at .050", duration, ignition timing, or lobe center angle). If anyone has or knows where to get this information, please post! Thanks.

What kind of camshaft are you looking for? I mean what brand. If I may ask how much torque will a new camshaft gives?

I ended up with a 4.2L cam. I took .020 off the heads, ARP studs and rod bolts (fits 1961-1963 Buick 215), and 1988 Ford 302 Injectors. I also installed a 160* thermostat and bypassed the throttle plate heater hoses. New hoses, belts, and motor mounts and it runs vrey nice. I have an MSD distributor for a 1961-1963 Buick 215 (required slight modification) to install...
