Default Painted Skid-Guards?

What are your guys thoughts on the necessity of painting skid-plates? I have a fuel-tank guard, a transfer-case guard, and two diff-guards. They're just plain steel at the moment, and if I were to paint them it would just be a couple coats of spray paint (much easier for me to 'patch up' a scratch than if they were powder coated).

How important is it to have them painted?

Thanks,

John

Aren't the skid guard galvanized or another form of non-ferrous metal? Do they need paint for protecting the metals from rusting?

I wouldn't paint any of them cause if they are in fact being used/hit or scratched, you will be painting them after every trip.

I've got a buddy who powdercoats. I'm going to get the skidplates and diff guards coated to match the OME shocks on mine.

If you paint them, at least the tops won't rust and start leaving stains where you park and you can touch up the undersides as needed when you start to think they look nasty.
