I love bench racing as much if not more than the next guy!

Our Rover engines are old style American small block Buicks. They are small displacement, but gains are to be had through head work and cam profiles. Higher compression pistons will also help, but then ignition timing and those pesky head gaskets also need to be addressed.

The answer is (as has already been shared here) anything can be done depending on your check book. I personally want to focus on having the most reliable Rover engine out there. One that runs, idles and lasts for 300K miles. I don't care about 50 extra horsepower and the hastle it takes to get there.

Having said that, the most intriguing modifications I've seen have been engine swaps, particularly with the diesels. There are also some pretty sexy and powerful V6 options, and even a few V8's...PIA? Absolutely, yes, they are...

On the turbo question specifically...I'd wager a turbo and a Rover engine would get along for about 30 days before a whole new set of issue's would arise. JMHO...

I think turboing a land rover should be fine.
