Is LR Discovery good for towing a boat?
Hello All,
I'm new to LRs, wondering if 2019 Land Rover Discovery HSE (V6) is a good and safe car to tow a boat? I'm interested in towing a 23ft/4500-5500Ib boat, I live about 10 - 15 miles from the beach. Has anyone done this? please share your experience (pictures)! Thanks |
This si an amazing towing vehicle I suggest asking @N559br for more info he tows a huge boat and many people on this forum tow travel trailers much heavier than boats you should be absolutely fine and I tow a light pop-up a lot and it loves it.

An Avalon with a trailer hitch could probably tow 5,500lbs. You'll be fine.

I tow this all over NC... Mountains to the beach. Zero issues moving and stopping. I did add an electronic trailer brake using the pre-wire that came with my Disco. Many boat trailers have brakes (hydraulic surge) and most states require depending on the trailer weight.

Thank you for your reply.
Will I need an "electronic trailer brake" if I tow a 5000lb boat? |
I would highly advise a trailer brake of some kind with that weight... You do not want your boat to beat you to the stop sign on a hard stop! That said, a boat that size may have a trailer with the hydraulic/surge type brake built into the trailer. Best to speak to the seller and look up the laws of your area, state laws differ in the USA. In NC I believe the weight is 4,000 lbs for a brake requirement.

make sure you get the right plug in connection also when buying the controller

Correct... my trailer brake uses theTekonsha 3065 harness. This type of harness is readily available for ~US$15. It is made primarily for Ford trucks.
