Default Need help/advise : Tire chipping on 2018 LR Discovery 5

Hi All, I have a 2018 Discovery 5 HSE Luxury model and I noticed tire chipping more on 3 tires and less on 4th tire. Can anyone please help guide me as to what could be the problem?
- When I got the car in 2018, I had vibration in the steering from day 1 and the dealer initially denied any issues with the new car. The dealership rotated and balanced the tires and yet the problem persisted. Finally, with repeated complaints, the dealership changed all the 4 tires as the tires developed flat spots sitting in the lot for several months.
- Have serviced the car regularly at the dealership @ 15K & 28K
- The vibration went away and after driving for 2 years (~28 K miles) I started noticing slight tire chipping on the outer walls of the 2 tires. Rotated and balanced the tires.
- 2021 May, I got the wheel alignment done @ 35K miles at the dealership and now (37K miles) I started noticing significant chipping of the tires in-spite of the alignment. Pictures attached for for front left and rear left tires
- I have maintained the tires pressures optimally all through the seasons.
- Current tires (original) are Goodyear make and are 21 inch in size.

Thanks,
Rsquare

How many miles have you got on those ones? Are they the Goodyear eagle F1? We got those on our car from new and they were terrible. Early vibration (they rotated and balanced but still not great), poor winter driving performance (so I got winter tires separately - never needed that with the Pirelli on the LR4). And after about 12,000 miles (part highway part local roads, all on normal roads) the vibration was bad and dealer told me they were 'cupped'. I replaced with a better brand and it's a totally different driving experience

Ditch them

My original goodyear tires on my new LR3 were crap. Changed to Nitto tires when it had 5k miles and never looked back. I am running Yokohama tires on my D5.

Hi BritCars, thank you for the input. Yes, the tires on my LR Disc5 are GoodYear Eagle F1 tires and they did have vibration initially. Current mileage is 37K.for 3 years.. I live in VA and we get a decent amount of snow in the winter. What tires do you recommend for all seasons? The current tire size is 245/45/R21. Please advise.
Thanks,
Rsquare

Hi Ponderosajack, thanks for the reply. How is the drive with Yokohama? Are they all season tires? I do not travel off roads much but looking for smooth ride with less noise.

Thanks,
Rsquare

If you got 37k miles on the Goodyear you did a lot better than me!

I replaced with Pirelli Scorpion Verde All season Plus II. I had similar on my LR4 for many years and they performed very well. Had them a year on the Discovery now and so far all great.

I do still have my winter tires (Nokian Hakka R3) which I use in the snow / cold season. Although the Pirelli handles well in cold and snow. I got those as the Goodyear was so bad in the cold.

G015 all season tires with the snowflake symbol. Mine are 20 inch. Not sure if they come in your size. Check tirerack for sizing. They are very quiet and very smooth. Handle just fine. Balanced easily. Have done a little bit of severe off roading (San Juan Colorado 4WD not forest roads) without effort.
