Default New LR Disco 5 Owner - Any Maintenance tips

Hello All,

After hours if scouring through online material and research, I have decided to purchase a used 2020 discovery 5 , Gas V6.,
Found a white with beige interior in Houston TX. This is going to be my wife's primary car for kids and groceries. My family is super excited replace our aging 2016 Mazda CX5.

The vehicle is a SCV6 with 46,000 miles. It is a lease return and LR dealership initially listed it as CPO. However I purchased it from a Hyundai dealer nearby,
I am assuming that the basic maintenance might have been done on time.

I would really appreciate recommendations/tips on maintenance or premptive fixes for this vehicle. I'm fairly handy, can do basic jobs and maintenance myself.

Looking forward to a happy ownership.

Pretty.

Change the fluids... frequently!
If you walk in to the dealer and ask the service writer, they should be able to tell you what was done and when. Also, what is outstanding!

Happy trails!

Thank you very much. Will check with the local dealer. The dealer is quoting $9k for platinum warranty 4 year 48k additional miles and $5k for base powertrain warranty. Wondering if its worth it to purchase the insurance?

I will plan to self perform
5000 miles - oil and filter
50,000 miles - transmission, coolant flush

congrats on the purchase. that is one pretty looking D5!
The warranty cost seems high, I suggest cross-shopping for quotes.
iirc there is a dedicated thread on this sub-forum already. feel free to browse through it.

That warranty is almost 3 times what I'm paying for bumper to bumper coverage. But, mine is 3rd party. A dealer warranty, however, "might" be a safer bet - if it isn't a 3rd party one being sold through the dealer.

The big caution with warranties is to keep ALL maintenance and repair records and have ALL maintenance done on time and have records for it. Of course, having it serviced by LR is a safer - but far more expensive - bet.

Warranty companies are in business to make money, not lose money.
So, keep a slush fund on the side and enjoy a party on the savings.

Yes, I do keep a close and friendly relationship with my dealer and my Inde. Glad you learned you have warranty!!

As for fluids, don't forget brake fluid, power steering, diffs!, and the transfer case.

Go with CPO warranty.. forget after market warranty, not worth it. just put back that cash in slush fund. trust me.

change oil 5k miles, as your life depended on it.

front rear diffs, and transfer case, 50K all fill til it spills.

transmission 50K or towing alot 25-30K, get kit, comes with pan/filter and fluid.

Of course if strange stuff starts happening, change main battery, even if Autozone says its good...lol

Do the maintenance and she will go far!

welcome to club!

Thanks for the advice.

Changed motor oil . 0W20 was too thin for my preference,

Decided to try out to Kirkland 5w30 Full synthetic. I could immediately feel there is less chain noise and the engine was running much smoother,

Oil Change was easy with a vacuum pump - Did it myself under 45 mins.

Replaced battery (purchased for $200 at Costco. ) installed it myself

Took help from a local shop to change the following fluids

1. Transmission Oil Change
2. Front Diff fluid change
3. Rear diff fluid change
4. Brake fluid flush
5. Flushed Coolant

Spent around $170 for all the fluids and $750 for labor.
