Default Off-road height 1 & 2?

Hi there,

Can anyone fill me in on what the deal is with off-road height 1 & 2 as indicated in the manual? (I’ve got a 2018). It definitely seems as though the car only has one off-road height. I did some searching and saw some other people with the same question, but didn’t really find a clear answer. Would love to be able to get extra clearance if it’s available.

Thanks!!

Default off road heights

In a way, yes, there is only one off-road height that you can select. There is however a second off road height that the traction system itself can select if it sense that you are high-centered or stuck for example. It will raise you higher and give you some more clearance to get over the obstacle, but then quickly goes back down to regular off road height. Its temporary and only available by the electronics themselves. Its called extended off road height or something to that effect. It will flash on the dash when it happens. I don’t remember the exact height difference when its activated but its significantly more than normal height. Probably another 1/2”-1” or so higher.

Hope that makes sense.

I have offroad 1 and 2 on my 2022 Discovery. I can select the different heights whenever I want. However offroad height 1 is limited to 50 mph, and offroad height 2 is limited to 30 mph (maybe slightly less?)

That’s awesome. Do you know what the height differences are between Normal, 1, 2 heights? That’s cool to know they have those two options on the new models. Wonder if they still have that “extended” height when hung up on something as well.

  • The Off-Road 2 setting raises the vehicle 3 inches (75 mm) above normal height. The Off-Road 2 setting operates at speeds of up to 30 mph (50 km/h). The Off-Road 2 setting can be selected at speeds of up to 25 mph (40 km/h).

For a 2017 D5:OFF-ROAD HEIGHT

The suspension height can be raised to the off-road height setting to assist with off-road driving.

The off-road height setting only operates if:
  • The suspension is currently set at normal height.
  • The vehicle's speed is less than 43 mph (70 km/h).
Press the up button (1) to select the off-road height setting. The instrument panel displays a confirmation message. See ELECTRONIC AIR SUSPENSION CONTROLS.

The off-road height setting is dependent on the vehicle's speed. The Off-Road 1 height is 1.6 in (40 mm) above the normal height setting, up to a maximum vehicle speed of 50 mph (80 km/h). The Off-Road 2 height is 3 in (75 mm) above the normal height setting, up to a maximum vehicle speed of 31 mph (50 km/h). The suspension height can change automatically between these heights. To view the current off-road height setting, select Vehicle Dimensionsfrom the EXTRA FEATURES menu. See EXTRA FEATURES.

The Off-Road 2 height can be manually selected with the suspension at Off-Road 1 height. Press the up button (1) at any vehicle speed up to 40 km/h (25 mph).

To manually select the normal height setting from the off-road height setting, press the down button (2). Alternatively, increase the vehicle's speed above 50 mph (80 km/h) to automatically set the suspension to normal height.
