Default Questions about Cargo Cover

The cargo cover consists of 2 parts. One is the main cover that reels in like a window shade into a housing that sits just behind the 2nd row seats.
But the other part is a narrow cover that somehow attaches to the tailgate and I believe pivots from vertical to horizontal.

If anyone has that second narrow cover, could you please take some close up photos of it in both positions and also photo of the way it mounts to the tailgate and it's method of hinging. Also, does it overlap the main cover or just butt up to it? I might try to make this part but my local dealer does not stock it for me to look at it. If I'm successful I'll post pictures of my homemade version and details of it's construction.

Thanks in advance.

Can’t find any pictures now. The rear portion clips into the tailgate with a big clip in the center and a smaller on each end. It just sits perpendicular to the tailgate and never changes angels with the tailgate. It covers the space between the upright 3rd row and the tailgate inside wall.

The second piece slots in behind the second row and then extends to the slots for it in the cargo area.
The 2 pieces just go butt to butt.

It's a shame they jack up the prices so much if you purchase it after the fact. If your vehicle comes (or is pre-ordered) with the cargo cover, it's just a $155 option. Otherwise it costs $870.38 from the parts department (pre-discount.....if you can find someone who can give a discount).

The part numbers listed above in the thread have been superseded by the following new part numbers:

1) The luggage cover new part # is LR105618 ($507.94)
2) The blind cover new part # is LR106141 or LR118115 ($362.44)

Thanks much. That’s helpful. I think I’ll make one because it’s so ridiculously priced. I have the shade portion but not the tailgate portion. Bought mine as a CPO and didn’t know it was missing the tailgate portion. I can cut a piece of rigid black abs plastic and make the clips I think.

FYI, there are cheapo Chinese retractable covers you can find on ebay or AliExpress. I went that route and got one for a little of $100US. It does not include the tailgate piece, but has an extension that will pretty much cover your cargo from peering eyes.

For me, I was willing to buy it for $100. For $800, it would have been a hard pass. Quality is decent. Obviously not OEM quality, but it's a cargo cover; who cares, lol.

Thanks for that info. I do have the factory retractable portion but it leaves that 6 inch gap that the tailgate portion would cover.

OK, here's the blind cover I made. It presses into the three receptacles in the tailgate and stays in with a friction fit. It doesn't rattle.
Panel is 1/4 inch thick oak plywood because that's what I had available. There's a spline of hardwood that has the three hardwood splines that go into the tailgate receptacles.

Nice!
let us knowhow it holds up, as the plywood is heavier than the stock cover.

I considered the weight of the plywood. I was going to buy 1/8 inch thick abs plastic but that little piece of plywood really doesn't weigh much.
The plywood is actually a little under 1/4 inch. Weighs 1.45 pounds per sq. ft. I used about 1.75 square feet = 2.5 pounds.
1/8 inch thick ABS would have been about half that weight.
Plus, it's location is pretty close to the pivot point (tailgate hinges) so the moment arm is pretty small.
