Real world mpg

Now that a few folks have had a while to drive their Discovery V, what is the real world mpg for the US V6 gas powered models? For highway and around town?

Looking to shift from an LR4 (with the V8) and hoping it’s an improvement over the 9-11 mpg we currently get...

I have 4,500 miles on my new discovery First Edition. After breaking in the car with a few trips to the lake house and a trip from Chicago to South Dakota I have been pretty close to 17 mpg around town. The highway miles at 18 mpg for our long trip out to South Dakota (we had 7 people and a Thule box top). Our last trip to the lake we got 20 mpg but hit a lot of stop and go traffic on the last part of our trip. I have also noticed better gas mileage when using shell, BP gas vs. the smaller chains in my area.

Thank you. That’s good to know. My LR4 is closer to 9 or maybe 10 around town. It’s the V8 model, but clearly the greater weight of the vehicle plays a big part too
17/20 is a substantial improvement

This is more of a "your mileage may vary" (pun intended), as my 2006 LR3 has consistently been around 15-16 mpg in town, and anywhere from 18-23 mpg on the highway. Even towing a 2500 lbs trailer, the worst mileage I've ever had was around 13 mpg.

Does anybody have the diesel ? I currently have a 2005 LR3 V8 with 160,000 miles. Get about 16 mpg average. Just wondering if the extra money is worth the diesel option for mpg ?

My Disco 5 has not come in yet. I have a loaner HSE with a Diesel. I have seen 29mpg on a 185 mile trip. Around town/interstate driving from home to work and back I see avg 23.6mpg. These are all based on the computer not hand calc. I have a the SC v6 on order and they put me in this on my trade till it came in. I haven't spent that much time in the gas version but I am Very impressed on the Diesel. Hopefully I will not regret not getting it. I have a 21 bay boat and it pulls this boat with ease too.

Mileage

I'm seeing 23.5-23.7 in my combined driving with the diesel. have not run a complete tank on the highway yet, car only has 1500 miles on it. I'm heavy footed so I'm impressed, just filled it this morning at 436mi on the tank, took 18.4. so far I love the vehicle.

I have just over 10K miles on my D5 TD6. At least a 1/3 of the miles have been towing an almost 7K lbs travel trailer. I have been average about 22 mpg since new. In town, the Twin Cities, I average between 19 and 25. On one long drive without the trailer to Northern WI I average 29.5 mpg. My mileage has dropped a little with the cold weather and the 275/55R20 Goodyear Wrangler Dura Tracs that I have had mounted recently. But not much.

9-11 is pretty shocking. My wife gets a blended 17 in her ‘12 V8. Are you running bigger tires?

Nope - stock everything. But it's mostly heavily suburban short runs - school, activities etc and I think with such a heavy car that just kills the fuel economy. Pretty hard on the brakes too - last set got us 18 months which was only just over 10k miles...

That's unfortunate as I was hoping for a big boost with the V but I suspect it won't be a lot better then...
