I know that our battery is a 90Ah, 850 CCA, AGM battery, but I have not been able to verify the specific battery group size? Has anybody swapped a battery in their D5 yet? I found this on the Euro version of Exide's website, it sounds like they are an OE supplier and that this is the battery that comes from the factory, but no sure if anything in it's size is readily available in the US. It might be a dealer-only item.

I just swapped a Johnson Controls H8 AGM battery this last weekend into my Mom's Jeep Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel; looked good at 900 CCA. I had found that same information on Interstate Batteries website about the H8 potentially fitting, but am not certain given that it's not exactly the same dimensions.
I believe that you should register your new battery in the vehicle’s computer. My service manager told me I should just like BMW’s do. My handheld Foxwell programmer has an option to do this. On BMW it effects how the new battery is charged.

I'm sure it will fit. The dimensions are less than 0.020 thousands different. 1/32 inch = .0312 thousands.
I changed my battery. Fit perfect, no need to register.
Thanks for sharing, now I know a BGI 49 or an H8 will fit! I know that it appears that you do not have to register the battery but from my experience with BMW, if you fail to do so it won't know that you put a new battery in there and the lifespan of your new battery will be reduced. BMW calls it registering and it looks like Land Rover calls it calibrating. See if you can find a Land Rover indy who will register the new battery for you. The Gap IID2 tool can do this and maybe with the new update coming out this month from Foxwell, one of their tools may be able to do this, as well. https://www.gap-diagnostic.com/products/iidtool/
The screenshot below is from my 2018 D5 service manual copy that I got off Ebay for like $25.
